Ten minutes from the Sand Hollow Aquatic Center in Saint George is the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve. It’s 62,000 acres on the northern most edge of the Mojave Desert that has been set aside for the endangered Mojave Desert tortoise. The weather was perfect yesterday and since Sue and I both felt like taking a day off from the pool and gym we headed to the Reserve for a short hike. The red sandstone cliffs with the snow capped peaks of the Pine Valley mountains in the background was beautiful. As we walked along the smooth, red trails we met only a handful of hikers and runners. There are dozens of miles of trail to choose from and if you get bored with the Reserve you can run through the adjacent state park. It was a great way to spend a morning. I hope you enjoy the photos.
